JPL-7 Ferro debris monitor measures the content of wear shavings by using the principle of electromagnetic induction and the changes in the magnetic field of the sensor coil caused by ferromagnetic wear shavings in the oil sample. It has a good linear relationship with the iron shavings content and particle size of the oil sample.
It features high sensitivity, accuracy and repeatability. No sample pretreatment or organic solvents are required. It can measure the PQ index of ferromagnetic metal abrasive particles in various oil samples within a few seconds. The PQ index is a dimensionless quantitative figure. It is widely applied in fields such as national defense, aerospace, shipping, power, petrochemical, metallurgy, mining, and road transportation.
It is not sensitive to large particles and can sometimes be fatal in monitoring and diagnosis, as the particles normally worn by the friction pair are generally less than 10μm, while metal particles larger than 15μm are produced due to abnormal wear.
